[heading style=”1″]About Computer Angels[/heading]
The idea of Computer Angels started in 2011 when our Executive Director and founder Mike LaRochelle was helping a friend pick up some furniture at a local storage facility. While there, he noticed a storage unit that was opened and filled with used computers. He asked the gentleman that was loading more items into the unit, “What are you doing with all of these computers?” His reply, “They have outlived their usefulness and are going to be scrapped.” He continued on to tell Mike that the business he worked for had just purchased new computers to replace these 2-3 year old units.
That night Mr. LaRochelle did some research and realized how widespread the problem of non-recycled technology was. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) an estimated 41.9 million computers were discarded in 2007. That’s over 112,000 computers discarded every day. From that day forward, Mr. LaRochelle vowed to reduce the number of computers sent to landfills and find loving homes for them all.
